Profile:

Kathleen Ahrens (Ph.D. UC San Diego) is a Professor in the Department of English and the Director of the Research Centre for Professional Communication in English at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. In addition to her position as Chair of the Association for Researching and Applying Metaphor (18-22), she is a Fellow and former Vice-President (17-18) and President (18-19) of the Hong Kong Academy of the Humanities.

She also serves on the Board of Advisors for the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, and is a member of the International Advisory Board for the Metaphor Lab Amsterdam. She is on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Pragmatics, Metaphor and the Social World, and Metaphor in Language, Cognition and Communication.

She has taken an inter-disciplinary approach to the study of metaphor, running behavioural crowd-sourcing, neuro-imaging, and reaction times studies, as well as analysing metaphor use through corpus-based and ontological-based approaches.
