Profile:

Professor Leonard K.K. Chan is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Languages at Hong Kong Institute of Education, carrying the concurrent title of Chair Professor of Chinese Literature. He is also the Director of the Research Centre for Chinese Literature and Literary Culture. 

Prior to joining HKIEd, he was Professor in the Division of Humanities at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He had served as Head of the Department of Chinese at Hong Kong Baptist University. He was also Visiting Professor at the University of Alberta, Canada, and had been Visiting Scholar/Fellow at Harvard University, Columbia University, University of Tokyo, Peking University, National Tsing Hua University, National Dong Hwa University, and others.

Professor Chan’s major research interests are in the areas of classical Chinese poetry and poetics, literary historiography, and Hong Kong literature. He has authored and (co-) edited 20 books, including Obsession With China (《情迷家國》, 2007), Ming Neo-Classicist on Tang Poetry (《明代復古派唐詩論研究》, 2007), The Modes of Writings and Cultural Politics of Literary Histories (《文學史書寫形態與文化政治》, 2005), A Melancholic Journey: Reading Literature in Hong Kong (《感傷的旅程:在香港讀文學》, 2003). His co-edited book on “Chinese lyrical tradition” (抒情傳統) will be released in 2012. He has also started a project to comply 12 volumes of Collected Works of Hong Kong Literature, 1919-1949.
